Wine Club Cruise & Exploring The Markets Of France
My wife and I recently returned from an amazing trip through France and we were fortunate enough to spend 3 days in Bordeaux. We visited the fabulous Château Lassègue winery, as well as Kendall-Jackson’s cooperage to see how our barrels are made. The Jackson Family has part ownership in a stave mill in France that creates some of the best barrels, for the top wineries, in the world.
From Bordeaux, we flew to Lyon where I was able to visit Les Halles de Lyon, an indoor food market. Les Halles de Lyon is considered one of the best food markets in the world and it’s truly a chef’s dream. You name it, they had it, and everything was displayed perfectly. The sights, smells and sounds of the bustling market made me want to stay there all day.
From Lyon, we embarked on the most wonderful Wine Club cruise on the Rhône River where we traveled from town to town visiting markets, wineries and beautiful French villages. (And one of the best things about river cruising is that you are able to see so many different places without ever having to move your luggage).
I really enjoyed the time that I spent in the markets of France, whether indoors or out, it was fascinating to check out the fresh, local ingredients. Just like in great winemaking and great cuisine, starting with the best ingredients is often the most important part.
Below are some of my favorite pictures from the markets of France. Hope to see you on the next Wine Club cruise.
