Giving Back – Our Commitment to Philanthropy
Since its inception in 1982, Jackson Family Wines has been grounded in three hallmarks, each of which continues to resonate today: the importance of family, stewardship of the land and an honest representation of wine.
Nearly thirty years later, proprietor Barbara Banke and the Jackson family continue to embed these core values into the company’s local and worldwide practices, from sustainable winegrowing, inspired winemaking and a respect for wine at the table, to packaging innovations, sales efficiencies and finally, community outreach.
We believe that the involvement of an organization in its local community has a positive and lasting impact and is an essential element of sustainability. Our enterprise supports more than 40 community organizations, The Red Cross, United Way and The Boys & Girls Clubs among them. Hundreds of Kendall-Jackson employees give their time and financial support to philanthropy and our company regularly collaborates with local government, educators, scientists and business leaders on issues affecting our industry and community.
Each year, the Jackson family donates significant personal funds to support the charities of their choice. Their $500,000 donation to the Sonoma County Justice Center for victims of domestic violence in 2010 was the largest single pledge for any family justice center nationwide. And in keeping with the family’s commitment to education, the family pledged $3 million to the University of California, Davis, for the construction of the Jess S. Jackson Sustainable Winery Building. The building will serve as a demonstration facility for advanced sustainable winery studies, key among them the benefits of captured rainwater and the sequestration of carbon dioxide in order to prevent damage to the atmosphere. It is expected to be the first American winery to have a net zero carbon footprint.
