Mendocino County

Located directly north of Sonoma County and about 90 miles (145km) from San Francisco, Mendocino County is bounded by the Coast Mountain Range, the Pacific Ocean, and the great northern redwood forests. This is an ocean-cooled wine growing frontier that has the largest total organic wine grape acreage in the United States. Most of the vineyards are located in the inland valleys in the south and east areas of the county, with the Anderson Valley AVA being the most well-known growing region. Anderson Valley now ranks among the top Pinot Noir regions in North America and is a valley that cuts laterally through the Coast Range rather than lying between ridges. The west end of the valley is only a few miles from the Pacific Ocean while the east end is 20 miles away, this alignment results in a wide temperature range.
