DIY Clay Dish Place Setting for Your Guests
Hey there, it’s Melissa here from The Sweet Escape with a really sweet, handmade addition for your next dinner party table setting. Now I know that hosting a dinner party is a lot of work and I should start by saying that this project is for those who really love putting together a beautiful table as well as a delicious meal and have the time to plan and prepare their table in advance. I’m going to show you how to make this adorable handmade personalized dish. It doubles as a place setting as well as a little gift for your guest to bring home that will remind them of your great event as well help them stay organized in a stylish way.
As far as DIY projects go, this is a great place to start for a beginner and will be super easy for the DIY pro. Here’s what you’ll need to make one similar to the one shown but once you’ve made the dish, you can decorate how you like.
MATERIALS:
• air dry clay
• alphabet and decor stamps
• acrylic paint
• medium & fine size paint brush
• rolling pin
• circle shape cutter (glass or bowl works)
• Modge Podge sealer
Here’s a simple step-by-step to help you out if you’ve never used air dry clay before. It’s really very forgiving and easy to work with. Just make sure you wrap up your unused clay right away since it does air dry.
Lastly, once all the paint is completely dry you can seal it with Modge Podge spray or paste in the finish that you like. I chose a glossy finish.
So as you can see, it’s not terribly difficult but you do need to leave yourself at least two days before your party to have them complete. But aren’t they worth it? Your guests will feel so special and think of you every time they see that adorable dish holding some of their favorite trinkets.
These would also be a great touch for an intimate bridal shower or wedding. You could stamp on the date or bride/groom’s initials or a love quote or design. There’s really so many options.
You could also skip the dinner party part and make it into a craft night with some girlfriends. Make some plain dishes ahead and then have fun painting and stamping them together with lots of laughs, some snacks and a few bottles of Kendall-Jackson wine, of course!
