Tasting Over 200 Wines In Two Days

Winemaker Matt checked in from Sonoma County earlier this week to share some pictures. Lately, he’s been busy doing one of the hardest parts of his job: wine tasting.

As you can see from the photo above and the photo below, he’s just buried behind Bordeaux varietals, which the winemaking team is tasting through. What does this entail? Well, specifically, a lot of tasting and spitting – not to mention purple teeth.

The first day of the Bordeaux review the winemaking team tasted 148 wines: 23 Merlots, 12 Petit Verdots, 11 Cab Francs, 7 Malbecs and 95 Cabernet Sauvignons.

The second day Winemaker Matt called “a light day, just 73 wines.” He and the team tasted Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignons from Alexander and Knights Valleys and some varietals they’ll use to blend, including Malbec, Cab Franc and Petit Verdot.

It’s a rough job, but somebody’s got to make sure the quality of our wine remains top notch.
