2006 Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Zinfandel

Tasting Notes

"Plum, raspberry and blackberry flavors are supported with solid tannins in this rustic Zinfandel. Sultry cedar and spice accents linger on this captivating, long-finishing wine." – Randy Ullom, Winemaster

Acclaim

Wine of the Day - "Restaurant buyers love to hate K-J. Consumers love it. So do critics. Value. Quality. Flavor. I have nothing but respect for the continuing excellence of this brand. The Zin is not a blockbuster, but who can drink a blockbuster all the time? Just give me a varietally correct wine that has body, balance and flavor. This Zin from various regions of Northern California, has intense plum, raspberry and blackberry aromas, with cedar and spice to make it more interesting. The palate has soft tannins and flavors so concentrated, it's like crushing the fruit in your mouth. Just pair it with a grilled steak or burger. For $13 full markup, it's a steal." - Sandra Silfven, Detroit News, April 2008

Four Stars/Highly Recommended - "Delicious: ripely flavored (blackberry, plum, cherry), full bodied, crisp, and long on the finish, with overtones of pepper and oak." - Ronn Wiegand, Restaurant Wine, June 2008

Highly Recommended - "With this wine, the winemakers have blended a bit of the Italian grape variety barbera with the zinfandel grapes to add complexity and flavor. The usual strawberry aroma of a zinfandel yields to blackberries and raspberries while the barbera adds its signature peppery note. Here too, the flavor mirrors the aroma with the addition of modest amounts of vanilla and oak. The aftertaste is long, fruity and complex. If you do zinfandels, definitely do this one." - Ben & Sheila Bodenstein, News-Leader.com, June 2008
