Sonoma County

Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and Napa Valley, Sonoma County is blessed with a versatile landscape which is strongly influenced by maritime variations.

The county enjoys cool nights and days that rarely get hot, due to the fog that creeps from the ocean into the interior valley through spots like the Petaluma Wine Gap and the Russian River. Sonoma’s most interesting geological feature is the Mayacamas Mountain Range, which runs along the border between Lake, Napa and Sonoma counties. This range was created many years ago by violent tectonic upheavals of the coastal plates and now provides a shield for the county’s warmer AVA’s such as Alexander Valley and Knights Valley.
