Grand Reserve Sonoma County Merlot 2014
Our Grand Reserve Merlot is crafted with grapes hand-selected from specific areas of our Jackson Estates Grown vineyards in Sonoma County. An intense concentration of black fruit and dark chocolate is enhanced by 18 months of oak barrel aging. There is seductive fruit tone on the nose and a long, velvety finish.

As you can imagine, the Jackson Family have enormous vineyard sources from which to get their Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their 2014 Merlot Grand Reserve comes from Sonoma and is 95% Merlot and the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot, with a tiny dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon. It is aged mostly in French wood. The wine is soft and ripe, with mocha, roasted herbs, cocoa bean, and some chocolaty plum and cherry notes. The wine has good, rich fruit and is straightforward and attractive. Dark cherry, chocolate, spice, leather and tobacco are pushed forward in the 2014 Merlot Grand Reserve. Succulent and polished, the 2014 will drink well with minimal cellaring.
Pre-fermentation cold-soak adds layers of complexity by extracting a silkier tannin profile and aged 18 months in 84% French oak (11% new) and 16% American oak.
Sonoma County mountain, ridge and hillside estate fruit translates to high-toned red and black fruit, with distinct rich tannins and a soft lingering finish. All our estate vineyards are certified sustainable by the CCSW (Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing) and SIP (Sustainability in Practice) programs.
