Mother's Day DIY Flower Crown
Hey there, Melissa from The Sweet Escape here to help you make Mother’s Day extra special for the Moms in your life. Gifts are great and flowers are great so how about combining them to make a handmade flower gift? And bonus you get some beautiful photo memories from it too. Today I’m going to share with you how to make a simple, fresh flower crown.
Pick up some of your favorite blooms and greenery, include a variety of colors, shapes and textures. You’ll also need some floral wire (or something similar) and scissors or clippers. Throw in some Kendall-Jackson Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay and you have yourself the ingredients for a perfect crafty get together or solo DIY gift session.
I know it’s going to hurt to take scissors to these beauties but you’ll need to cut off all the blooms leaving about 1.5″ of stem for wrapping around the main crown. Measure you and/or your mom/sister/aunt/grandma’s head and create a simple wire circle frame. This is optional but you can also wrap some floral tape around the wire if you like to give it a bit more bulk and hide your wire if it’s not green.
Start with a layer of greenery to cover the wire then slowly add and layer your buds. The great thing about flowers is that they’re so beautiful that it’s kinda hard to make them look bad. I promise.
It requires a bit of patience but after your first couple blooms you’ll get the hang of it. Pour yourself a glass of Chardonnay and just enjoy the process. You can either make these as a surprise for your mom or you can invite a group of the great moms in your life and make it a fun way to spend the day together. How much beauty would these add to your Mother’s Day brunch table if you used them as place settings with a pretty name card?
The design possibilities are endless so feel free to go as simple or ornate as you like. I decided to keep it fairly simple and keep the flowers grouped in one section. You can go all the way around, stick to one type of flower or color, whatever you like!
The best part of this gift is the great photos you’ll have to remember for years. Like the crowns, it’s pretty hard not to look radiant with a beautiful crown of flowers on your head. It’s the best reason to get together for some brunch, great wine, conversation and create some pretty photo memories.
